In affirmation of its commitment to WASH in schools, Save the Children in partnership with GSK Pharma is implementing a water and sanitation hygiene (WASH) project in seven Nashik Municipal Schools.
The project addresses three major components – (i) Infrastructure development that includes physical structures and components pertaining to water, hand washing and sanitation services, (ii) Knowledge & Practice that includes health and hygiene education to prevent water and sanitation related diseases for creating healthy school environment and developing positive hygiene behaviour. (iii) Establish monitoring systems to ensure these systems are functional and sustainable
The baseline data was collected and analysed across KPIs including water quality, hand washing behaviour, menstrual hygiene, cleanliness of toilets and access for young and differently-abled students. Tools used are structured questionnaire, Focus Group Discussion with students/teachers and school observation. The report also recommended possible initiatives that may be taken to mainstream WASH in the project schools
