Save the Children has recognized the fact that all classroom innovation is unlikely to have much impact because of technical and political barriers. By considering these real-world barriers and mobilizing everyone who has a stake in learning, schools can support innovative measures on the front lines. Keeping in line with the above thought Save the Children proposes to augment the quality of education for children at the Primary/Elementary Schools by creating a “Learner Friendly Environment for Children” in 40 schools in Igatpuri block of Nasik with the support from Hempel.

The objectives of the Baseline Assessment are:
The ‘as-is’ data has been collected for four broad variables which have significant ramifications for successful implementation of the project namely
(i)School Infrastructure,
(ii) School Functioning and Teaching Methodology
(iii) Learning Environment through Classroom Observation,
(iv) Community Institutions for School Management.
For collecting data on the other parameters the methodology involved interaction with three key stakeholders, namely (i) teachers, (ii) HM and (iiI) SMC members using structured questionnaires and checklists. In addition, schools and classrooms, an observation was done by trained assessors to collect data on classroom dynamics, teaching methodology and infrastructure available and its use.
